As this iteration of ICTED is a “relaunch” of sorts after the pandemic lockdowns, holding the conference outside Metro Manila sends the message that the UP College of Education is ready and willing to widen its reach both locally and internationally. The ICTED 2024 conference to be held at the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON) in Iloilo City will be more accessible to Visayas and Mindanao scholars as Iloilo International Airport is a major domestic hub. Having the first ICTED outside Metro Manila also brings the College closer to our basic education and SUC stakeholders in the Visayas and Mindanao regions, allowing the College to establish or renew collaborations with them to fulfill the College’s mandate as the primary teacher education institution of the National University.
Iloilo City’s designation as a UNESCO Creative Cities Network City of Gastronomy in 2023 highlights its significance as a cultural center in the region. As ICTED 2024 explores themes of future education, it is fitting that the College explores collaborations with possible stakeholders outside its traditional sphere of influence in the education sector.
